Aquaponics : Growbed Six - Clean Up

Not clogged but not working perfectly...

Messy...

Still gonna keep them all...

Done... And not that's what I call magnificent...

Aquaponics : Cleaning Growbed One

This is one of the challenge why media type aquaponics not suitable for commercial.

Clogged by root...

Messy... Can't stand the fish poops? Keep your distance then...

Remain sweet potato leaf and Lettuces sowed.

Aquaponics : RG420

Today we gonna harvest the Amaranth Spinach here for lunch...

Aquaponics : RG420

RG420 is our test base for small scale commercial system. It has been almost a year and the progress is still not on the right path. There's a plan to switch the gutter to pipe but we found out that we will face the same challenges. Of course,  covering up the gutter might be a good move...

Aquaponics : Growbed Seven and The Cherry tomatoes

With other cherry tomato plants being overdosed by our onion-pepper spray and growing very slowly, this cherry tomato plant started to contribute 600g tomatoes per week. This round the production is being impacted deeply. For your information, our price per 100g is stay at Rm2.

Never overdose your plants... :)

Aquaponics : Growbed Four

The leafy veggies are picking up their pace in growbed Four. Compare to those leafy veggies from RG420, the Growbed (media based) is faster than the gutter system.

There are also two ladyfingers in it...

Aquaponics : Growbed Three

This ladyfingers is already in the production for quite some time. Healthy and productive....

Aquaponics : Fish Feces

This is part of the routine work and sometimes you might have to deal with it early in the morning.

Aquaponics : Algae attack

... Algae built up in the big blue tank ( previously called duckweed tank) due to the ebb and flow failure in growbed seven 2 days ago. What we have done's cover up half of the tank and monitor for few days.

Heard that, overwhelming algae growing will cause DO issue especially at night...

Aquaponics : RG420 - Revived the Lane one

Have taken the Duckweed out from lane one and currently we are trying to plant more veggies on RG420. Hopefully will see more green here in future.

Looks at the Sansevieria we have now? Observed that it has a thicker leaf than those we planted on soil.

There are still many enhancements to follow up on this gutter system with different flow methods.

Aquaponics : Growbed Seven : Cherry Tomato

We have reserved the cherry tomatoes here to a friend who really care about what he's eating and has been our supporter since day one.

Aquaponics : 2nd and 3rd Luffa

We have planted two luffas on the roof,  one from the soil and another from our aquaponics growbed One.

We are using the fish poops from the mechanical filter to fertilized the one from the soil.

For the time being,  this plant is about 8 feet tall,  not as tall as the one in growbed One.

The one from the growbed,  about 10feet tall.

Aquaponics : Water Filter for Duckweed Tank

We have deployed another pair of filter to the Duckweed tank.

As previous setup, One act as mechanical filter and another a biofilter.

Let's observe the results.

Aquaponics : Water Filter for Gutter System - Deployment

After dealing with the 10 litre (in 16 days) fish poop in previous deployed radial swirl filter,  have added a small Biofilter in the RG420,  it is now in our radar.

We are trying to save cost and try to use what we have in the system currently. Thus,  our setup is slightly different from what it supposed to be.

Aquaponics : Water Filter for Gutter System - Another Layer

for the weekend... Since we still have not started to move the gutter system this week... We will create another layer of filtering for Gutter system. The additional layer is as shown in red.

Aquaponics : Luffa : Not Yet Ending Story

It has been Five months growing in the main system,  the luffa is still fruiting even though the growbed has been clogged by its root. We have no idea when it is gonna stop producing and we gonna continue having it in the system.

Anyway, there is also another luffa growing in growbed One.

Aquaponics : Sump Tank - water quality update

8 days after placing individual pumps for growbeds. Believe this method has corrected the flood and drain issue we faced and also more water to the growbeds; however,  we observed a dirtier growbed surface.. Especially for growbed six...

Aquaponics : 2016 RG420

Woke up 5am in the morning working on the gutter System. This should be the last planting activity before we relocate them to the new location.

Let's compare the growth of them as we are using different water flow rate for each of them.  The outer Lane is now for growing guppies and Duckweed..

Aquaponics : First post for the 2016

Let's have the first update on the main System for the year 2016.

We have 'moved' in the fishes mostly tilapia. Would think that the amount we have now is over the limit of our fish tanks and growbeds.  Anyway, we will slowly move them off to New tanks when time comes.

In year 2016, our target is grow more to supply for our family consumption. To archive this we will need to revise our strategy from time to time.

Currently, we are having Cherry tomato plants in growbed five and six. For growbed three and four, we focus more on the leafy vegetables.  Growbed two, still the old luffa...as it is still in production. Growbed one leafy vegetables and luffa.
