Aquaponics : Loofah

Have the chance to finish it up. This is the first Loofah from our system.

There are still around 30 still hanging around. Some booked some still have no ownership.

From the observation, the plant is getting older and starting to dry out...will update after a week.

Aquaponics : Minor Improvement on Water Filter for RG420

This will be the last enhancement we have for the whole system before the 7-days stress test starting coming Saturday (31 Oct) until the next Saturday (7 Nov).

For RG420, this is the kick start for the coming year-end enhancement.

Hopefully the filter will improve the water quality.

Aquaponics : Loofah. ..this is real!

Time for us to tear it apart and see what's in there. This luffa was pulled off due to our curiosity. .. and waited for quite some time for it to dry but looks like it won't. .. :P

Aquaponics : RG420 - Update

Have some of the lettuces relocated from growbed four a week ago.

Found that method used in lane 2 are suitable for lettuces even though the growth is slower;however, from our recent observation,  it is picking up. We will relocate more lettuces tomorrow.

The amaranths in lane 3 are actually long due.

Method used in lane 4 is slower than lane 2, this is actually not the method we wanted but for the short term no harm trying...

..and yes. A proper filter needed to be deployed here.

Aquaponics : Before and After

Water quality before and after applying a filter system in the duckweed tank.
Now we are moving few more jade perches into the duckweed tank. Found that perches and guppies are staying together peacefully.

Present vs 3 weeks ago.

Aquaponics : Growbed Seven - Weekly Update

This new Growbed still need some time to work perfectly. Currently, We have moved 4 jade perches into the fish tank and the total is still a concern to keep up the momentum for what we have in this Growbed.

We will let these lettuces to grow older for their seeds as we are planning to clean up the 6-growbeds before starting the next 'season'.

Aquaponics : Growbed Five - Weekly Update

We will have a cleanup activity for all the Growbed in our system after this 'season'.

Figure shows the Growbed Five which is slightly flooded...

Aquaponics : Growbed Four - Weekly Update

We will pull these plants off in the coming week as there are not growing/fruiting very slowly.

Yes. This is the end of the season for Japanese cucumber and cucumber.

Aquaponics : Growbed Three - Weekly Update

Let's have a look @ Growbed Three. The cherry tomato is fruiting but not yet ready for harvest.

The lettuces will need another week.

Aquaponics : Growbed Two - Weekly Update

Having a very tight schedule during weekend, we have not dealt with the flooding issue here. Hopefully our mitigation plan works fine for another week.
As of now we have about 20+ luffas hanging around the area.

Aquaponics : Growbed One - Weekly Update

We have started harvesting the lettuces (leaves only) here for our meal. The frequency is about one week twice.

Aquaponics : Oh Gosh! A Challenge @Growbed Two

As we all know it's the peak growing moment for the luffa in Growbed two.

Peak is good but there's a downside too...what will be the downside of it? Growbed flooded and siphon stuck!

We are going to deal with this situation ASAP hopefully there is no impact to the growing. Our ASAP mostly will be coming weekend...our mitigation plan for now is reduce the water inlet.

Now here is the million $$$ question, how do we clean the Growbed without pull the luffa out from the Growbed? Imagination?

Stay tuned...

Aquaponics : This Morning Harvest

Curiosity kills the Luffa... today have the first Luffa pulled off from the plants...just curious what is inside. The Luffa is about 14days old. The rest of them will make them a luffa sponge or loofah. :)

As for Japanese Cucumbers and cherry tomatoes...still producing... the cherry tomatoes are from the growbed three.

Aquaponics : Luffa

This is the first time we have Luffa in our system, we are still exploring when to get them harvested. Heard that it is depending on what do you want to do with it...taste it? Make it a loofah? Keeping the seeds...
Anyway, if you have any ideas, don't hesitate to leave us a comment.

Aquaponics : One of The Reason We Love Aquaponics

One of the Reasons We Love aquaponics : with a 5ft fish tank and a 2.1ftx3.2ft growbed you can make your roof looks like a jungle.

Aquaponics : Morning Harvest

Have to get rid of them to allow the rest to pulled them off all together.
We are starting to harvest from the growbed one for lettuces.

Aquaponics : Growbed Seven - Now

Currently, the growbed is still 'young' and we wouldn't place a high expectations to this; furthermore, the fishes here are not as many.

We have lettuces, potato leaf and KangKung.

Sowed Two cherry tomatoes on last weekend.

Aquaponics : Growbed Six - Now

Pulled off two cabbages over the weekend and awaiting for enhancements.

Aquaponics : Growbed Five - Now

Growbed Five, the mother growbed of all the lettuces.
We also have a fruiting cherry tomato plant supplying us cherry tomatoes for daily consumption.
Once the season ended, we will have a round of clean up for this growbed as there are too many rocks residing here. It was due to our initial setup where we were lacking of leca.

Aquaponics : Growbed Four - Now

Another quite happening growbed where we have Cucumbers, Japanese Cucumbers and lettuces.
Believe that we are lacking of magnesium and calcium for the cucumber plant. Anyway, no actions will be taken but will keep on monitor on it.

Aquaponics : Growbed Three - Now

This growbed has started to supply cherry tomatoes.
There is also a new ladyfingers sowed 5 days ago.

Aquaponics : Growbed Two - Now

The growbed of bitter gourd and Luffa.

This is one of the most happening growbed in our system.

From our observation, it is always full of fish poops and we are facing difficulty to make the siphon reaction goes right. After this season, we will surely need to make the water flow runs as what we expected.

Aquaponics : Growbed One - Now

Full of Italian lettuce

Will our source for salad for breakfast and lunch in the coming month.

Sowed a ladyfingers the other go with the steam fish...

Aquaponics : The Duckweed reloaded and Reloaded and Reloaded. ..

Let's have an update on the duckweed buckets we placed in the tanks a week ago...

One of the bucket, the one in duckweed tank, didn't grow as expected. Still puzzling ... the other one is OK and use them to feed the fishes once a week.

Aquaponics : Today's Harvest

Pulled these four Japanese Cucumbers from growbed four this morning.

We have some situation in growbed six which we have pulled two very small cabbages out from the growbed. These cabbages are 124days old. There is for sure an enhancement needed to be done on this growbed and we already have the answers.

Aquaponics : 'Density'

Figure taken from the growbed one and three. We are testing on if density matters here....

what if in the future we fill the growbed with lettuces...?

Growbed three - Staying together with a cherry tomato.

Growbed one - should be able to fill up more. No problem, let's let them grow older and do seeding themselves. Hopefully will fill the whole growbed with lettuces.

Aquaponics : Picking up

Grow few inches in a day...looks like it is picking up...

Aquaponics : Japanese Cucumber for Sale

Harvested this Japanese cucumber this is about 530gram, for sale, Rm5 each.

Picture taken few days should be longer.
