Lunch

Am not a hardcore vegetarian nor an organic food supporter, I eat meat like there is no tomorrow; however, today my lunch is purely veggie and the veggie that I grow myself from my aquaponics sky farm... Organic? I have no idea.

There is a huge different between the veggies grown by others and myself... Like my dad used to say, his durian is the best in the area... It is purely chapperlang...

Sky Garden : The Papaya

Always wanna grow papaya trees on the roof...

Dont just think but action needed..here we go.

Too bad that we only need two...

One of them...

Aquaponics : Reorganization of the growbeds

Before...

After...
Grow Sweet potato leaves here

Cherry tomatoes and Cabbage for the new growbeds

The rest will use the rain gutters... total of 136 pots.

Aquaponics : Weekly Harvest

Well, we are cleaning up all the sweet potato leaves and the kangkung, reorganization of the growbeds. Thus, woul say the biggest harvest so far.

Aquaponics : The Root

Let's have a look at the root of the veggie...kangkung.

Aquaponics : Bugs and Insects

FAQ from people...

Do we have bugs and Insects in the system?

Yes, of course! Why not?

Look at the picture...

how do we control them?

For the time being, just let them be as they are part of the system...

Aquaponics : The Rain Gutter Testbed

Looks like quite happening here...

Aquaponics : The Cabbage (Update)

Rainy season... slow in progress as expected.

Aquaponics: The Cabbage

My favorite in the growbed, the cabbage. Looks like will have to wait for another 50 days for harvest.

It is time for us to stop working on the aquaponics system for now (of course have to keep growing) but focus more on improving our infra especially on power supply/sources. We have now additional solar panels, higher capacity power inverter and charge controller to be in placed to make the system more flexible and efficient.

Higher cost involved when comes to green power or environmental friendly...sometimes it is just a 'joke' of "from the left pocket to the right pocket" kinda thing but then, "A man got to do what a man got to do.. " ;)

...not to forget to mention that, there are tilapias and jade perch ready for consumption but i dont think we are in favor to have them on dining table as we are staying next to the coast where freshwater fishes are not our favorite...

Rain gutters, observed a slower growing rate for the setup. We have now 130 pots in the system and still in experimental stage. Maybe just need to wait for more bacteria to kick in...currently, we have amaranth greens, warer spinach, kai lan and spinach also not to forget the additional 'fish food'... For speeding up the growth and balance up the life cycle in the gutter, small fishes are added into the equation.

Aquaponics: For Dinner

First harvest after few months of instability.

Sweet potato leaves...

Kian Heng Kopitiam (等一下咖啡厅) : The Secret Weapon

This is one of the 'secret weapon' created with heart...the heart of the maker (the engineer?) The heart of the owner of Kian Heng Kopitiam. Try it!  You will want more... The Iced Coffee Shake...

Aquaponics: Let's Grow More

Alright. All up and running!

This is what we are testing on....Let's see the results and will surely share our experience and hope that, more people will join growing healthy veggies.

If in the future, when we tell you that we are selling veggies; we are actually selling the veggies we are eating.

Aquaponics Sky Farm: Behind The Scene

This is the talented engineer who is standing behind the scene and making all things happened.

Aquaponics: Fish Food - The Aftermath

Yap. They are always hungry.

Aquaponics: Fish Food (organic?)

Have this real old kangkung in the growbed and become an organic food for the fishes..

In the growbed...

Main tank...For the fishes
Taller tank...

The best they can do..

Aquaponics : Abandoned For A Week

Went holiday for a week...

Today have tested the rain gutter and enhanced the water flow between sump, main, and taller tank; also the taller tank as a swirl filter.

Aquaponics : The completion

99% done and risk assessment is on going...and yes, a bit untidy now will do another round of fine tuning later.

...Where the aqua and ponics meet...

...The main tank and the taller tank (overflow tank)...

In between..the sump tank and main tank...

The complete set...(kindly ignore the jacob)

Let's grow some organic veggies...and fishes...

Aquaponics : The Twins

Found them stick together ... stick together..stick together...the twins organic cherry tomatoes.

Was working on the relocation until late night yesterday... now we are having a new setup; however, the old and new growbeds are still apart. Will slowly clean up the old growbed and then the relocation. .stay tune.

Sky Garden : Waterproofing Power Switch (Enhanced Version)

The final version waterproof power switch by our multi-talented plumber.

Sky Garden : The Solar Powered Floodlights

Managed to install these four light-weight floodlights to lighten up our sky farm/garden [or whatever you wanna call it].  ; )

Don't think we are going to light them up daily but when there is a power outage, they should be ON.

Aquaponics : Getting Ready for the Combination

Alright, have found what we wanted. It is about time to combine all the growbeds and the fish tanks. have confidence that after all done, things will turn out great... (Yes, currently it's still not yet in the optimum stage.)

Seriously, need to mention again, the plants grow real fast if you have the right siphon reactions for a flood and flush system. ( of course, that's why it is called flood and flush. ; )

However, for the new combined setting, we might trying out some method. Stay tuned!

Sky Garden : Floodlight - Waterproofing switch

While waiting for the combination of the whole aquaponics system, now we re focusing on the lighting..the floodlights needed to be in place so that we would be able to have activitis on the roof. Life is not about doing but savoring what you have done too. ;)

The whole floodlight system will be purely powered by the solar-wind system.

Aquaponics : Putting Up A Net

Planning..planning....planning....

It is always not wrong that plan before do. Should have put this net up before they started to grow... Now it is a little bit too late but it is alright as just for testing.

I would say..Net is really useful for the fish tank and the growbeds what do you think?

Aquaponics: Challenges

1. Rainy season.
Heavy rainfall has caused issues on water overflow and siphon reaction, until now we still couldn't get the right siphon reaction; we are expecting slow growing for all in the new growbeds.

2. There are eight cherry tomatoes in the growbeds and found that they are being 'attacked' by the strong wind. We have made few supports for them but we doubt that those supports can hold up to the strong wind.

3. Those residing in the old growbed is growing in an extreme slow pace as the fish population is lower. We are still waiting for the right time for relocation/combination of new and old growbeds.

4. Our green power supply couldn't cater for our new water pumps.

Relaxing on the roof..nice weather

Yap...nice weather...
