Sky Garden : A week later

Growing new batch of veggies..

It is a confirmation that the water level does matter for the water pump to run perfectly.

Sky Garden : The Monitoring Meter for My Solar Power system

If you are planning to get a SOC  meter for your solar power system, please DO not get this! It is incapable of reporting the right SOC not to mention the SOC of a battery bank.

Sky Garden : Plan B for Duckweed

Lifted the cover and replaced with this 'net' for duckweed growing.

Sky Garden : The Last Harvest for The Year 2013

Would consider this as the last harvest.

The new harvest is expected to be in one month.

As for the fishes, there are 12 left in the tank. Might add maybe 10 or more in the coming month.

Sky Garden : The Backup Plan for The Water Pump

Found that in certain water level, the extreme water pump will stop pumping the water to the growbed, have place the smaller water pump just in case. Yes, running on two pumps to speed up the flushing.

In future, might need to increase the voltage for both of them when additional growbed is to be added.

Sky Garden: Another harvest

Have another harvest tonight, now left only 20% in the growbed...would try to leave it for now to see if those ladyfingers will grow faster.

The duckweed growing was a failure might need some contingency plan for that. Well still thinking...

Found that the duration for siphon reaction cycle had been delayed, from 6:11mins to almost 10mins, this means that there's only 6 cutoffs in an hour. This is not a good sign might need to put an additional pump or step up the voltage for current pump.

Sky Garden : Getting complicated

Gosh~ looks at those veggies.. Too crowded as they used to be.. Planning to take those spinach out of the equation. The grape is the new family member.

Aquaponics? What's the 'aqua'? Stay tuned.

Sky Garden: Duckweed

Hopefully, I got it right... The duckweed found in a gutter. Do let me know if I got it wrongly. The duckweed is a good food source for the tilapia which I am planning to grow for my tilapia instead of feeding them the 'chemicals' bought from the aquarium. I believe this will make my aquaponics system even  closer to real organic... Hopefully...

Sky Garden : Growing something different

Of course, growing something different meaning growing my wife's favorite veggie...the ladyfingers. There are six of them in the growbed.

Am not sure how far they will grow but I will try anything new...

Sky Garden : High density

Looks like it is too populated in some part of the growbed,  would need to shift them when they grow from time to time.

As for the solar power, recently the weather started to get warmer and hotter,  the energy produced sometimes reaches 1.2kw which mean I have plenty of power to run some other appliances.

Sky Garden : Veggies

Started to throw in anything I have doubt of... There are now four kind of veggies in the growbed.. Including the ladyfingers. (not in the picture)

Rainy season they looked really vulnerable.. Hopefully wouldn't flush by the heavy downfall..

Sky Garden: Complete the aquaponics system

Was really excited by the outcome last night and worked until 2am just to solve the siphon cutoff issue.  Wala... It is now history and the siphon works like a champ and will flush and drain every 10mins.

However, would like to test on a higher rate inflow rate after complete putting up the solar power monitoring system.

Note that,  the siphon was purchased online.

Sky Garden: Aquaponics

Was thinking of trying my luck by just putting some veggies' seeds into the incomplete system few days back,... Wala...am not sure this is the correct way or It might be caused by the rainy season... Let's see how it...

Sky Garden : Solar power in action

Finally, the small scale solar power is in action.

Next,  will be searching for proper DC water pump for a small aquaponics system.

There is also a plan to cut off all the existing passion fruits plants since was not properly managed......

Another coming plan will be growing the grapes... which believe will take another three years...

Sky Garden: A New DIY 100w solar power system

A new DIY 100w solar power system will be replacing this small solar charger in the near future. This new 100w solar power system will be supporting water pump for the coming aquaponic system and as an alternative power source for the premises.

Sky Garden : Auto Watering System without Pump and Rain Water Tank

Alright! Let's spend some money to bring my auto watering system to another stage.

Please find the items purchased for this system..

1. 150Gl water tank
2. 8mm water pipe
3. Small host connectors
4. Small volume controllers
5. Water balloon for the tank
6. Fishes...

Just connect them together and will have a 24/7 watering system for the plants.

As a backup, a water balloon is placed in the middle of the tank (where the water pressure is enough to make the system running) whenever the rain water is not sufficient to support the system.
